Eat Soccer Presents Smoothie + Sport for Childhood Nutrition Day

DSC_0093Would you like to try a strawberry oatmeal, pineapple ginger coconut or mystery mix smoothie?  For sixty-four students at Pine Ridge Elementary School in Metro Atlanta, they had the opportunity to make and taste all three!

On Friday, October 11th, students from two classrooms learned how make healthy smoothies and perform cool soccer tricks at Eat Soccer’s Smoothie + Sport event.

Through collaboration with Vitamix , American Culinary Federation Foundation, Georgia Soccer and Attack Youth Soccer, Eat Soccer’s Qiana Martin teamed up with Chef Ameerah Watson to educate participants on eating healthy and staying physically active with soccer.  Chef Watson is the owner of Intimate Chef of Atlanta and a culinary talent who has appeared on Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen and the upcoming show Restaurant Express.

Healthy lifestyle messaging to kids has quickly become a top priority on the national and state level. With First Lady Obama pushing for an increase in healthy product marketing to kids and Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, Georgia Commissioner for the Department of Public Health, emphasizing fitness and nutrition messaging to kids in schools, Eat Soccer’s Smoothie + Sport aimed to score a goal for both of these platforms in honor of Childhood Nutrition Day.  The end result was a win for all of the students who took part, as many students got ball bags, others were awarded soccer balls and the Pine Ridge Physical Education Department received a gift of 20 soccer balls courtesy of Georgia Soccer and Attack Youth Soccer SA.

If you know of a school and/or after school program that can benefit from an Eat Soccer Smoothie + Sport event, please contact us at eatsoccer (at) gmail (dot) com.
